Three sizes cannot be bought new, because they are no longer made. The 23, the 25 and the 29 exist only pre-owned, worth knowing before you settle on one: a 23 is not ordered, it is found. The Élan, longer and narrower, appears intermittently.
Which Constance leather suits how you will carry it

EpsomEpsom is calf with the grain pressed in rather than raised. It is light, resists scratches and keeps a crisp edge, and it is what most pre-owned Constance bags turn up in. The grain is stamped on, so the colour layer rubs away at the corners and a worn patch cannot be put back.
Box calfBox calf is smooth and glossy, and what the earliest Constance bags were made in. It takes a patina and scratches readily, so sharp corners mean it has been looked after.

ChèvreChèvre is goat rather than calf: light, faintly lustrous and hard-wearing. Mysore is less produced now, so ask the year.
What the H clasp and the stamp tell you
The H on the front is the closure, not a logo, and the first thing to examine. It is spring-loaded: the bar releases from behind the H and clicks back, and the action should feel firm rather than loose. What is checked is the engraving, the plating, how squarely the H sits in its frame, and the mechanism's tension. A clasp that opens too easily is the hardest fault to fake well and the easiest to feel.
The blind stamp records the year and the artisan. On a Constance it sits inside on the interior panel, not beside the front straps where a Birkin carries it, so a stamp in the wrong position for the model is a question first. There is no padlock and no clochette on this model.
